Your Questions About Boba Tea Recipes

Paul asks…

Boba Tea recipe Help?

Hi, I was thinking on making this at home since it is quite expensive. Now I have a good idea on flavors and what not: Mango w/Milk, and some black tea (ice cubes and tapioca included). And other recipes as well. My question is what is the right amount of milk to tea? Should it be roughly half tea 25% milk then the other 25 the juice or the “flavor”? Or what would you consider to be a good way?

Bubble Tea Fun answers:

Here’s a recipe that I use at home. I don’t do the ratio thing because some days I want it sweeter than others, and sometimes I want it strong. What you can do is make up a batch of strong tea. (I use black.) And I blend the fruit with the simple syrup and add the milk. Taste the batch that you made then you can add more of whatever taste you want that day.

3/4 cup brewed tea (I use black but you can use chai or green tea too)
1 cup ice cube
2 tablespoons sugar syrup
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup tapioca (optional)

1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup water

1 Make the sugar syrup by combining granulated sugar, brown sugar, and water into a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Stirring often.

2 Once mixture begins to simmer remove from heat. Cool and refrigerate until ready to use. Will keep for up to a month in a tightly sealed container.

3 Once syrup is chilled, combined tea, syrup, milk, and ice in a shaker or blender. I prefer a shaker but if you like blended drinks use a blender.

4 Shake until completely mixed.

5 Add tapioca pearls to a tall glass and pour in milk tea

Sharon asks…

How to make Milk Tea with or without Boba pearls?

Does anyone know how to make Milk Tea? Anyone work in an Asian boba drink shop can tell me the recipe and direction? Where do you buy these pearls anyway?

Bubble Tea Fun answers:

Pour some evaporated milk in hot brewed tea with sugar. (Lipton tea is fine.)

You can alter the thickness according to the amount you added in. Some like it thick; it’s up to you. Another milk to make milk tea, is condensed milk. Sugar can be omitted with condensed milk.

Stir in 1-2 Tbsp in 12-16 fl.oz tea cup. You should have rich creamy milk tea. Hope this helps.

How do you make Boba Lounge style Thai iced tea?

I went to the Asian market down the street and I bought a bag of Cha Thai Thai Iced Tea leaves. I tried using the recipe it told me on the back, but it did not taste the same as the way it is at the boba lounge. Do you know how much they use and how much sugar they use? Thank you.

Bubble Tea Fun answers:

To start off, make sure that that tea you got is real good quality. Easiest way to judge that, smell it. If it has a great aroma, you hit the jackpot.

Next you want to have a lot of sugar. Always sweeten to your own taste, but it will be a considerable amount of sugar. At a boba lounge, we use a special tool to measure the amount of sugar in the tea to regulate the sweetness levels.

Did you add milk? Cream? This can be a deciding point in the Thai tea experience. A lot of places use half & half because it is a lot sweeter compared to regular creamer, but if you prefer less sweetness, use evaporated milk. It is less sweet, but the consistency is good.

I hope this helps.
